| Thallus thin to thick, plane, verrucose to verruculose, yellowish white to whitish grey, with a rough verrucose surface, epruinose. Soredia usually absent; when present granular, whitish to whitish grey, 20–40 µm wide, forming concentric soralia that coalesce and cover most of the thallus. Prothallus not visible or whitish grey. Apothecia sessile, 0.6–1.2 mm diam.; disc pale to medium red-brown, epruinose; margin concolorous with the thallus, thin to thick, entire, ±verruculose to verrucose. Cortex hyaline, inspersed with small crystals, 15–20 µm thick laterally and 15–25 µm thick basally. Amphithecium with large crystals insoluble in KOH (pulicaris-type). Parathecium hyaline, without crystals, c. 10–15 µm thick. Epihymenium yellowish red-brown to reddish brown, K–, c. 10–15 µm thick, with numerous crystals insoluble in KOH. Hymenium, subhymenium and hypothecium hyaline. Paraphyses sparingly branched and not thickened apically. Ascospores broadly ellipsoidal, 12.5–15.5 × 7.5–10.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellow, C–, Pd+ orange; containing atranorin (major), pannarin (major), argopsin (minor), chloroatranorin (minor), dechloropannarin (minor), methyl virensate (minor) and unidentified depsidones (traces). |  |
